The Captioning Working Group, with membership from Deaf Aotearoa New Zealand, The Hearing Association New Zealand and The National Foundation for the Deaf are proud to announce that the New Zealand Captioning Awards 2014 are being held on Friday 27th November at the Langham Hotel in Auckland.
The captioning of television, public service broadcasts, movies and the internet are integral communication links for the one in six or over 700,000 New Zealanders who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. The New Zealand Captioning Awards will publicly acknowledge both individuals and organisations that have significantly contributed to the improvement of captioning across all media during 2014.
While New Zealand’s rate of captioning is poor on an international scale, ongoing campaigning has seen slight improvements in 2014. The Awards are an excellent opportunity to profile positive steps in the right direction and highlight the need to do more.
A range of dignitaries from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing sectors will be attending and it is expected that high profile politicians and broadcasting industry CEOs from around the country will also be in attendance at this significant event.
All award winners will be announced to the public after the Awards ceremony on Friday, 27th November.
