The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has published a consultation document to seek feedback on the future of the Telecommunications Relay Service for Deaf, hearing impaired, speech impaired and deafblind New Zealanders.
The current contracts for the provision of this service are due to expire in June 2019. To ensure the effective delivery of the relay service beyond this date, the consultation provides an opportunity to gather views on what services and equipment are required in future, particularly in light of technological developments.
Further information, the consultation document and a NZSL video summary of the document is available at:
Submissions, which can be submitted either in written form or in NZSL, are being sought by 13 April 2018.
The Ministry will also be holding public consultation events, with NZSL interpreters and captioners, to gather feedback on the consultation document in March 2018. Locations and dates are available on the website.
