NFD Training and Development Scholarship

Purpose

Training and development for deaf, hard of hearing or hearing-able people.

Conditions

Hearing applicants: to work for the benefit of deaf and/or hard of hearing people in a professional and/or voluntary capacity

Deaf / hard of hearing applicants:  can use the scholarship for own training / improvement / employment opportunities

What does it cover?

Course fees, books, interpreters, note-takers and extra educational material or tuition.

Individual applicants are required to:

  • 1.

    be a New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency.

  • 2.

    be taking up a course of study for employment that will benefit the deaf and hard of hearing community OR

  • 3.

    be deaf / hard of hearing (hearing loss 60dB or more in better ear) or have an Auditory Processing Disorder (APD).

  • 4.

    submit ALL supporting documents, along with a fully completed application form by the closing dates specified below, or your application will NOT be considered.

Supporting documents required

  • 1.

    where there is a hearing loss, an audiogram report or official letter from physician or audiologist

  • 2.

    where there is  an Auditory Processing Disorder, an official letter from physician or audiologist confirming the diagnosis of APD

  • 3.

    minimum of 2 recent signed references (issued within the last 12 months) in support of applicant/s (requests by applicant to email or phone the referees not accepted)

  • 4.

    course outline

  • 5.

    summary of qualifications held and record of learning

  • 6.

    accountability report for ANY previous funding received from the NFD Trust

  • 7.

    ORIGINAL pre-printed bank deposit slip or bank statement showing the official name and account number of applicant (handwritten copies not accepted) which has been officially date stamped and signed by bank staff.

  • 8.

    N.B. for legal reasons, this original evidence of bank account information MUST be posted in to our PO box, no scans or photocopies will be accepted

    Attach supporting documents to your application.

  • 3.

    Return application and supporting documents by closing date.

Photocopies of original documents (except for bank account information) are acceptable.

Opening date: 1 February

Closing date: 31 March

Applicants will be notified of the progress of their application no later than two months after the closing date.

Accountability

All successful applicants are required to complete and return an 'Acknowledgement of Grant' form on receipt of the funds granted to them, AND an Accountability report on completion of their course or activity that the funding was for. Failure to complete and return these documents will result in the applicant being ineligible for consideration for future funding from the NFD Trust.
