NFD Community Fund

Applicants need to demonstrate a clearly defined purpose and show how the grant's use will be of benefit to New Zealanders who are deaf or hard of hearing.


To support projects and activities that have a direct benefit to New Zealanders with hearing loss.


Supports groups and individuals whose aims are compatible with the objectives of NFD.

What does it cover?

Short-term projects, equipment and materials, capacity building, the development of innovative, imaginative and creative ideas, action oriented research, acquisition and dissemination of knowledge, collaboration between groups/individuals.

Individual applicants are required to:

  • 1.

    be a New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency.

  • 2.

    be deaf / hard of hearing (hearing loss 60dB or more in better ear) or have an Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) OR

  • 3.

    be undertaking a project or activity that will directly benefit New Zealanders with hearing loss or APD.

  • 4.

    submit ALL supporting documents, along with a fully completed application form by the closing dates specified below, or your application will NOT be considered.

Supporting documents required

  • 1.

    quotations / invoices / receipts.

  • 2.

    accountability report for ANY previous funding received from the NFD Trust.

  • 3.

    ORIGINAL pre-printed bank deposit slip or bank statement showing the official name and account number of applicant (handwritten copies not accepted) which has been officially date stamped and signed by bank staff.

  • 4.

    N.B. for legal reasons, this original evidence of bank account information MUST be posted in to our PO box, no scans or photocopies will be accepted.

    Fully complete the official application form.

  • 2.

    Attach supporting documents to your application

  • 3.

    Return application and supporting documents by closing date

Opening dates: 1 February and 1 August

Closing dates: 31 March and 30 September

Applicants will be notified of the progress of their application no later than two months after the closing date.

Photocopies of original documents (except for bank account information) are acceptable.


All successful applicants are required to complete and return an 'Acknowledgement of Grant' form on receipt of the funds granted to them, AND an Accountability report on completion of their course or activity that the funding was for. Failure to complete and return these documents will result in the applicant being ineligible for consideration for future funding from the NFD Trust.
