The Human Rights Commission has accepted the NFD combined cases submission that the ACC 6 percent injury threshold and age deduction scale are discriminatory on the grounds of age and disability. Read the full release here
It's time the ACC accepts that it has got it wrong over funding for workplace hearing injuries, says the NFD. NFD's Chief Executive, Louise Carroll, states that "the entire hearing disability sector - professionals, consumers, victims, and representatives of other groups - explained to the Government through the submission process why it was wrong to restrict hearing injury rehabilitation, and the Government ignored us all". Every weekend thousands of Kiwis are putting their hearing in jeopardy by undertaking seemingly innocuous home and garden Do it Yourself projects.
One in three DIYers potentially damages their hearing through weekend home improvement pursuits and with just over half the country regularly involved with DIY, some 700,000 Kiwis are seriously at risk of damaging their hearing.
NFD has revealed these facts after the results of their latest survey, commissioned in the lead-up to Hearing Week 2010 and are delivering a clear message for people who engage in home improvement activities - always wear hearing protection. Read more
