In May 2006, the government announced that it would fund a newborn hearing screening programme for all New Zealand children. The roll-out began on 1 July 2007.
The NFD began supporting Project HIEDI team members’ work towards this goal in 2002.
Now that a national screening programme is underway, we’re participating in many steering committees and advisory groups. Our focus is on ensuring that the screening and early intervention programme is implemented effectively.
