Daniel Carruthers was awarded the inaugural Quest for Excellence Scholarship in 2004. Daniel was an Otago University student with severe hearing loss. At the time of appying, Daniel was studying for his Masters degree in tourism.
Daniel already had a BCom in marketing and a BA in Chinese. His research revolved around New Zealand and Chinese Sister City relationships, and the implications for tourism.
