2005 Quest for Excellence Scholarship Winner

 Jennifer Peveral

Jenny Peveral was awarded the 2005 Quest for Excellence scholarship. When Jenny applied, she planned to study for a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology and a Masters in Social Science degree at the University of Waikato.

Jenny’s goal is to become a registered psychologist and eventually teach psychology at university level.

Jenny’s mid range hearing loss means she is unable to hear certain speech frequencies. She is required to wear two hearing aids and use lip reading to fill in the gaps.

Jenny’s motivation and ambition have seen her succeed over many obstacles. In addition to hearing loss, she has overcome injuries she suffered in a major car crash in 1997. As a result of this crash, Jenny required extensive rehabilitation for her head, chest and back injuries.

In 2006, Jenny was awarded two additional scholarships. Firstly, the prestigious Freemasons of New Zealand Postgraduate Scholarship for Doctoral study – one of only eight in the country.

Then later in 2006, Jenny was awarded the Wilf and Ruth Malcolm Postgraduate Scholarship for 2006. This scholarship is awarded once every three years. It is not open to application but is automatically awarded to the highest ranked University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarship applicant.
