Project HIEDI has developed a number of Issues Papers addressing specific areas of concern related to New Zealand's Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Early Identification Programme.
These have been presented to the National Screening Unit but no official response has yet been received.

Minimising false positives and false negatives is important to ensure programme effectiveness, and to minimise harm caused by parents having inappropriate confidence in the hearing status of their child which can, in turn, lead to an increased delay in the diagnosis of the child’s hearing impairment and poorer educational outcomes.
